Flow Generated by an Aerated Rushton Impeller: Two-phase PIV Experiments and Numerical Simulations

چکیده
Experiments Most publications of velocity measurements in stirred tanks concern measurements in single-phase flows. An excellent review of these studies was made by Ranade and Joshi (1990a). Literature concerning velocity measurements in aerated stirred tanks is scarcer however. An overview of literature is given in Table 1. Lu and Ju (1987) used constant temperature anemometry (CTA) in order to determine liquid velocity profiles in an aerated stirred tank. However, laser Doppler anemometry (LDA) measurements have been used in most recent experiments. Two examples are the work of Morud and Hjertager (1996) and Roučar and Van den Akker (1994), who used laser Doppler anemometry (LDA) for the measurement of gas velocities in a stirred tank. Sharp et al. (1998) used PIV to measure the liquid velocity in a stirred tank. The time-averaged velocity fields show the classical jet flow and the

Comparison of mixing between single- and bubbly two-phase systems in a Rushton stirred tank
Mixing is a widely practiced operation to effect distribution, intermingling and homogeneity of matter. Stirred tanks with different geometries (such as in main container tanks, impellers, baffles, etc.) are also widely used to mix different materials. The forces applied by impellers develop overall circulation or bulk flow. Superimposed on this flow pattern, there are turbulent eddies and also...
متن کاملNumerical Comparison of Rushton Turbine and CD-6 Impeller in Non-Newtonian Fluid Stirred Tank
A computational fluid dynamics simulation is done for non-Newtonian fluid in a baffled stirred tank. The CMC solution is taken as non-Newtonian shear thinning fluid for simulation. The Reynolds Average Navier Stocks equation with steady state multi reference frame approach is used to simulate flow in the stirred tank. The turbulent flow field is modelled using realizable k-ε turbulence model. T...
متن کاملCFD Study of Concave Turbine
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a powerful numerical tool that is becoming widely used to simulate many processes in the industry. In this work study of the stirred tank with 7 types of concave blade with CFD was presented. In the modeling of the impeller rotation, sliding mesh (SM) technique was used and RNG-k-ε model was selected for turbulence. Power consumption in various speeds in th...
متن کاملComputational Flow Modelling of Dual Rushton Impeller Stirred Vessels
Flow in baffled stirred vessels involve interactions between flow around rotating impeller blades and stationary baffles. When more than one impeller is used, which is quite common in practice, the flow complexity is greatly increased, especially when there is an interaction between the multiple impellers. The extent of interaction depends on relative distances between the impellers and clearan...
متن کاملGAS-LIQUID FLOW IN STIRRED REACTORS: Trailing Vortices and Gas Accumulation behind Impeller Blades
In a gas-liquid stirred reactor, gas tends to accumulate in low-pressure regions behind the impeller blades. Such gas accumulation forming so-called gas cavities, significantly alters impeller performance characteristics. We have computationally investigated gas-liquid flow generated by a Rushton turbine. Rotating Rushton turbine generates trailing vortices behind the blades, which enhance the ...
